As rumours of a July election swirled round Westminster, over 150 civil servants, local government executives and industry representatives came together yesterday at the House of Lords for the official Parliamentary launch of Government Transformation Week (4-7 November, 2024).

Ed Tillotson, Managing Director of Government Transformation Magazine, the organiser of Government Transformation Week, briefed the audience on the new features for the 5th annual gathering of policy, programme and DDaT leaders - which this year expands across an entire week, and grows to 3000 participants.

The formal launch of this year's combination of high-level Summits, Exhibition, Awards, Innovation Alley and networking events followed on from a closed-door meeting of Government Transformation Week's Advisory Board, including:

"We recognise that the work of government is getting harder - and we believe we're in a position to help by using our platform as the leading publisher in this space to bring together changemakers to focus on future government delivery," said Government Transformation Magazine's Tillotson.

"Nobody invests more in bringing the world of government best practice to London - with more than 80 senior central and local government speakers being flown in from North America, Europe and Asia Pacific," he noted. "This represents an investment in product quality, which combined with our award-winning event formats, attracts an influential and engaged audience of UK civil servants and local government executives. We've been doing this for five years, and it explains why we have an industry leading Net Promoter Score of +41."

Tillotson ran through some of the new features for 2024, including:

  • Visitor Zones - a commitment to widen access to our world-class speaker line-up with free-to-attend sessions on the exhibition floor, and clear pathways for our visitors to find the ideas, solutions and conversation that they are looking for.
  • Innovation Alley - a dedicated start-up and social enterprise zone in the middle of the show floor, and a natural high density and high-activity gathering point for our visitors.
  • Rising Stars of Public Service - recognising and celebrating the achievements of early stage career professionals in central and local government.

Following on from the launch overview, and the latest results of the quarterly reader survey of Government Priorities, there was a candid panel discussion moderated by David Wilde, co-founder of Government Transformation Magazine, with some of the members of the Advisory Board, including:

  • Gina Gill, Chief Strategy Officer, Central Digital & Data Office
  • Dyfed Alsop, CEO, Welsh Revenue Authority
  • Charlotte Briscall, Chief Digital Officer, Department for Education
  • Tariq Khan, Chief Digital & Information Officer, London Borough of Camden
  • Lee Almond, Vice President, Consulting Expert, CGI
  • Alan Sawyer, Central Government Market Lead, DXC
  • Andrew Newland, Director - Central Government, Snowflake

Organised under the Chatham House rule, the closed-door discussions covered improving and accelerating delivery; keeping abreast of rapidly-developing technical capabilities; the impact of AI on government departments; and improving the level of trust in the public sector.

All themes that will explored in detail across the many overlapping events at Government Transformation Week.  See you there.
