The Scottish Government is establishing a short-lived ‘Horizon Group’ to co-create a 5–20 year vision for public sector data in Scotland.
From health and housing to arts and culture, the Horizon Group is seeking public sector leaders and those interested in public sector data to be involved in a Lunar Works & Tynos Consulting designed process. The ambition is to share views on what transformations are likely and what vision is needed to ensure data supports the transformational change required.
Tom Wilkinson, CDO for the Scottish Government highlighted:
"Public sector data is a vital component in making sure that services for the people of Scotland are delivered efficiently and effectively. In an increasingly complex world, data plays an ever-expanding role in shaping and supporting economic, societal and environmental transformations."
Ways to get involved include membership in the Horizon Group, being part of a Challenge Group that will help review the draft vision, and in the longer term, a Realisation Group which will have an ongoing implementation-focused remit.
In the meantime, the Data Division of the Scottish Government are asking for expressions of interest for the Horizon Group ahead of the 7th May 2024 deadline.
