In development since August 2022, the platform allows the public and industry stakeholders to download and analyse data more easily.

The MAIB Data Portal features an interactive Power BI dashboard, enabling users to filter accident data and capture results visually through screenshots. Additionally, a downloadable prepopulated Power BI file (PBIX) is available, allowing more advanced users to export data for deeper analysis in table format.

Previously, individuals seeking access to this data were required to submit Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. Now, the portal simplifies access by offering a user-friendly dashboard and map interface, delivering real-time access to the most frequently requested data.

Raw data is also available in CSV format, covering key criteria such as occurrences, vessels, and affected persons. These datasets are linked via unique keys and are compatible with open-source analysis tools.

In developing the portal, MAIB collaborated closely with maritime industry stakeholders to ensure the service meets the needs of its users. Internal data quality tools have also been enhanced, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the information available.

Currently, the portal offers data from January 2023 onwards, with plans to expand the dataset in the future.
