Government Skills is asking for feedback after using an AI-generated video within its updated Civil Service Expectations course.

It is the first time an AI-generated video has been used to enhance learning on one of the cross-government courses hosted on Civil Service Learning.

“As part of the learning we are piloting the use of an AI-generated video as an optional module to help civil servants understand the new responsibilities,” said Government Skills’ online business partner, Gail Charlton.

“Research has shown us that people are generally receptive to learning done in this way so long as it’s clear that AI is being used.”

“If this short video helps people learn in the way we hope it does, it will be something we can use across more of our learning as it’s both time and cost-effective. But we are keen for feedback first.”

Civil Service Expectation is one of the most widely completed courses on the platform. It covers the Civil Service Code, the 2010 Equality Act, the importance of diversity and inclusion, where to go for help and support, and much more.

As part of the updates introduced last week (December 2), it will now include reference to the new Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 that came into effect on 26 October, which sets out employers’ responsibilities in preventing sexual harassment in the workplace.
