The new Civil Service location map could help to demystify the organisation for new recruits.
I'm pleased to see that a new location-specific map has been rolled out on the Civil Service Careers portal.
Designed to help external applicants understand where the physical footprint of the Civil Service is actually based, this has implications that extend beyond mere functionality and user experience on a website.
By its own admission, the Civil Service can seem a rather impenetrable organisation to an outsider and that can play out in issues as basic as ‘where is it based?’.
Now anybody interested in exploring job opportunities can put their location into the map and see at a glance where Civil Service offices and opportunities are based. We hope this could give a welcome boost to inclusion and accessibility in Civil Service recruitment.
Clearly people are rethinking many aspects of their professional lives. Looking for roles closer to home that afford a better work-life balance is a key element of that shifting mindset.
